How does Shiatsu work?

A Shiatsu treatment lasts ca. 60min and is traditionally performed at floor level on a large futon. Clients remain fully clothed throughout the treatment and it’s recommended to wear comfortable, loose clothing. By means of thumbs, hands, elbow or knees a gentle pressure is practiced on the meridians. The intensity is individually tailored to the client. The involvement of stretches, rotations and swing techniques supports the dissolution of stagnations and disbalances.
Supplementing also moxibustion can be used.

What is moxibustion?

Already in the Stone Age, pain was alleviated by applying heated up herbs.
With the moxibustion, Mugwort cigars are burned down ca. 2cm over acupuncture points. The metabolic activity is increased by the local heat supply and the appropriate spot is supplied with blood more intensively. This pain-free treatment is a pleasant addition of Shiatsu, particularly during the cold season.

How often do I need a treatment?

Depending upon personal desire Shiatsu can be enjoyed occasionally or regularly for health care and maintenance of a good body feeling. Particularly in stressful times and with acute requests, a regular treatment once a week is worthwhile.

What is Ki?

In Japanese philosophy the vital energy is called Ki. This energy flows along the meridians. Shiatsu stimulates and harmonizes that Ki, in order to promote health and strengthen the body’s own healing abilities.

What are meridians?

Along eastern understanding meridians are channels through which the energy flows inside a human body. There are 12 main meridians, which are assigned to organs and/or organ systems.
